The idea of the Truck Show was to do something spontaneous, low-budget, fun and new. New as far as a new experience - even most artists who participated in painting have not worked with spray paint before. More importantly, parked in gallery district in Pilsen on the weekend during Chicago Artists Month, we were able to turn spectators into performers. More than a 100 people participated in making the graffiti piece, more than half of them didn’t even introduce themselves. I am hoping that some of them will spray again… it is so magical how quickly a push of a finger can translate into something that looks like modern art! So effortless, yet so fulfilling - everyone should make some.

As a member of Chicago-based Margin Collaborative, I participated in a number of traditional art gallery-type exhibits. Everyone should have a few… When the gallery fills up with people, It feels like a girl you asked on a date said ‘yes’. When these people tell you that they like your work, it feels like a kiss and when you sell a piece, it feels like you’ve scored. If you sell a lot of pieces and have to paint more on commission it feels like… well, not everything in the world can be compared to sex.

How can art be exclusive and inclusive at the same time? Placement of my Chicago-made post-ups in two über-cosmopolitan and artistically-charged European cities made the exhibit more exclusive. Involvement of friends and of complete strangers in the act made the exhibit more inclusive. It was my most attended show – thousands of people saw the work and a couple of pieces were even missing the next day… a great success!
